Get ready for Spring!

May 15th, 2012 by Deb Moon - Real Estate Agent

Everyone wants to be outdoors for the long weekend!  Whether getting away to open the lake cabin up for the summer, doing lawn cleanup and maintenance, or planting a garden, most Edmontonians will spend a lot of their weekend outside. The nicer the weather the more empty shelves will be in the beer coolers of your favorite liquor stores.  Just try to find a ice cold Hop Head IPA at Sherbrooke Liquors in hot weather!

The issue of yards concerns many first-time homebuyers, especially those whose budget dictates a townhouse or apartment style condo. What can they do if they really want to have a garden and an affordable home? Fortunately Edmonton has an amazing network of Community Gardens where you can either volunteer for the greater good or rent a plot to garden yourself. Diverse clusters of community gardens have been created throughout the city. Check out the Community Garden Network website to find a garden nearest you.  It’s all about growing sustainable foods even in urban centres.

Moon on Edmonton

May 7th, 2012 by Deb Moon - Real Estate Agent

Spring is finally here. I’m coming out of my winter funk, which is a perfect time to plan a garden and get serious about beginning a real estate blog. I’m not going to blog about every house I’ve listed, sold, or viewed unless they are truly noteworthy in some respect. Buying a home is just the beginning, a stage for family life. I like exploring Edmonton communities and neighbourhoods. I’ll write about quirky things that make Edmonton interesting. The extra stuff out of the house is much more fun to write about than the inside. A home’s interior design, although important, too, isn’t going to be my main focus.

Winter is long here and in a normal winter we spend a lot of time inside. This blog will be about fun places and things in and around Edmonton that draw us out and about. Right now I’m thinking wild foods, morels and asparagus, maybe fiddleheads, which are only found in early Spring. Later in the year I’ll be out with my dog looking for orange cap mushrooms, Alberta’s provincial mushroom, and shaggy manes. My poodle doesn’t care about the shrooms or berries but she sure loves the walks in the woods, whether along the river valley or outside the city. Mushrooming is a passion for me. Later will be wild berry foraging.

I hope whoever reads this journal will join me in exploring what makes Edmonton a great place to live. Post your favorites and we will all explore together.
